Meet the Authors
For thirty years, Jeff has dedicated his life to developing The Great Adventure, the visually engaging and interactive Bible study system that enables students to understand the chronological flow of Scripture.
Jeff Cavins is the director of the Archbishop Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute based in St. Paul, Minnesota. As the founding host of EWTN’s Life on the Rock, he has been recognized both nationally and internationally as an exciting public speaker who has a deep love for Jesus Christ and who communicates his zeal with clarity and enthusiasm. Jeff, his wife Emily, and their daughters live in Minnesota.
Sarah Christmyer is co-developer with Jeff Cavins of The Great Adventure Catholic Bible study program. She serves as Executive Editor of The Great Adventure and is author or co-author of a number of the studies.
Sarah has thirty years of experience leading and teaching Bible studies. She helped launch Catholic Scripture Study and is co-author of “Genesis Part I: God and His Creation” and “Genesis Part II: God and His Family,” published by Emmaus Road. Sarah has a BA in English literature from Gordon College in Wenham, MA, and is working toward a Masters of Theology at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. Raised in a strong evangelical family, she was received into the Catholic Church in 1992.
Dr. Tim Gray
Dr. Tim Gray is the author of several books including Praying Scripture for a Change: An Introduction to Lectio Divina and Walking with God: A Journey through the Bible. Dr. Gray has teamed up with Jeff Cavins in the development of The Great Adventure Bible Study Series, most notably of Psalms: The School of Prayer. A nationally known speaker, Dr. Gray has filmed numerous series for EWTN.
Dr. Gray is the president of the Augustine Institute, professor of Sacred Scripture at the St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, and the executive director of the Denver Catholic Biblical and Catechetical Schools. He holds a PhD in biblical studies from Catholic University of America. He resides in Denver with his wife, Kris, and their son Joseph.
Dr. Edward Sri
Dr. Edward Sri is a nationally-known Catholic speaker and author. He has written several best-selling books and two courses, including a A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, a program which explores the Scriptural foundations of the prayers and gestures of the Mass, and the new study Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother, scheduled for release in March 2014.
Dr. Sri is provost and professor of theology and Scripture at the Augustine Institute and founding leader with Curtis Martin of FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students). He holds a doctorate from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He resides with his wife, Elizabeth, and their children in Littleton, Colorado.
Thomas Smith is the co-author of Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come and an international presenter for The Great Adventure Bible Timeline. Bringing a wealth of experience and insight on the Word of God to audiences across the U.S., Thomas is a repeat guest on EWTN and Catholic radio as well as a sought after parish mission and conference speaker.
Thomas Smith has taught as an adjunct professor at the St. Francis School of Theology in Denver, and is the former Director of the Denver Catholic Biblical School and the Denver Catechetical School. He lives on his family ranch in southeastern Idaho and writes for his website www.gen215.org.
Mark Hart serves as Executive Vice President for Life Teen International. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a twenty-year veteran of youth ministry, Mark is a best-selling and award-winning author (or co-author) of over a dozen books and one of the most sought-after speakers serving in the Catholic Church, today.
Mark hosts his own weekly satellite radio show, “Fired Up!”, for The Catholic Channel, Sirius XM 129 and is a Research Fellow for the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Additionally, his weekly audio podcast (Sunday, Sunday, Sunday) and HD video spots (Beyond Words) are helping youth groups, families and classrooms in over two dozen countries enter more deeply into the Sunday Mass readings.
Mark’s humor and his passion for Scripture – as experienced in his DVD Bible Study Series, “T3” and “Encounter” – are helping hundreds of thousands of young Catholics, begin to read and study the Bible in engaging and relevant ways.
Mark and his wife, Melanie, live with their daughters Hope, Trinity, and Faith, and their son, Josiah, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Gayle Somers is the author of Galatians: Set Free to Live and has been writing and leading parish Bible studies for nearly sixteen years. She earned her B.A. from the University of New Orleans and her M.A. in Theological Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in S. Hamilton, MA. She was a part-time Lecturer in Philosophy at Gordon College, in Wenham, MA, and a contributor to the Woman’s Study Bible published by Thomas Nelson.
Gayle was received into the Catholic Church together with her family in 1995. She currently serves as an instructor with the Institute of Catholic Theology at St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Phoenix, AZ, and also maintains the blog, Scripture Speaks, where she regularly comments on the four Sunday lectionary Mass readings. Gayle lives with her husband in Phoenix, Arizona.
Scott co-authored the study guide for Exodus: Called to Freedom with Dr. Tim Gray. He serves as the Director of Scriptural Theology at the Aquinas Institute for Catholic Thought in Boulder, CO and has worked as editor for the internationally read CatholicNewsAgency.com. He has also contributed to the National Catholic Register.
Scott ministered to college students through FOCUS for several years. He lives with his wife, Annie, their daughter, Lily Avila, and their son, Samuel, near Boulder, CO. Together the Powells direct Camp Wojtyla, a Catholic outdoor adventure program for youth.
